In a Truth Social message published on August 1, the president emphasized his determination to restore the fund. “It will immediately be back on the table, and I will get it done,” Trump wrote. The post clarified that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously served as Trump’s personal attorney, would remain in his acting capacity and reinstate the fund should the confirmation process stall.

Senators Push Back Amid Fund Controversy

Sens. Thom Tillis and John Cornyn have been delaying their vote on Blanche’s nomination, citing concerns about the anti-weaponization fund. This $1.776 billion Department of Justice account is designed to provide taxpayer money to people claiming they have suffered political retaliation or legal difficulties. Blanche played a key role in resolving a lawsuit between Trump and the Internal Revenue Service that originally established this fund. On Friday, July 31, Trump filed an appeal challenging a court decision that had restricted access to the fund.

Trump defended the fund in his recent post, stating it “takes care of those who have been so badly treated by the Crooked Joe Biden (and Obuma!) Administration.” Tillis quickly countered with his own social media message, characterizing the fund as a “payout pot for punks.” Many critics view the fund as a vehicle allowing Trump’s political supporters and individuals pardoned following the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack to receive taxpayer money.
