The sculptor responsible for this special gift is George Lundeen, a Colorado-based artist whose work has achieved national recognition. Lundeen is perhaps best known for creating the Defiance Monument, a life-size bronze sculpture capturing President Trump pumping his fist in the air immediately after the 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. A bronze casting of this powerful scene is currently displayed at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Defiance Monument’s Potential Future Locations
According to White House officials, the Defiance Monument may eventually find a permanent home at the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library in Miami once Trump’s term concludes. However, other possibilities exist, including the Trump library either loaning or donating the sculpture back to the White House. Should a donation occur, the sculpture would become official White House property, with maintenance responsibilities falling to both the White House Usher’s office and the National Park Service.
The Defiance Monument has appeared in various locations across the country, with other editions featuring at the Sorrel Sky Gallery in New York, the University of Missouri near the David R. Strategic Placement and Design Considerations
The Jefferson statue currently faces the Truman Balcony with its back toward the Oval Office, though this arrangement is temporary. White House officials explained that the president selected a specific location for the monument, but the site requires reinforcement before the statue can be permanently installed. Once complete, the sculpture will face both the Rose Garden and the Oval Office.
Trump’s extensive background in real estate has influenced his approach to White House design in numerous ways. The Oval Office now features presidential portraits, military flags, and golden decorative elements. The Rose Garden lawn has been completely paved, and workers are currently constructing a 90,000-square-foot ballroom, a project that required demolishing the East Wing and drew criticism from some observers.
