Man who threw girlfriend from tower block jailed
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison for hurling his girlfriend from the fourth floor of a tower block. Jordan Herring, from Solihull, was convicted of causing serious harm after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court. His prior offense of coercive and controlling behavior toward the same woman was also acknowledged by the court.
The incident occurred in November 2022 when 18-year-old Bobbie Goodman fell from Herring’s mother’s flat at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood. Emergency services were summoned more than an hour later, as reported by police. Goodman suffered a collapsed lung and multiple fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs, requiring an air ambulance for transport to hospital.
“I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again,” said Bobbie Goodman.
Goodman described the experience as deeply dehumanizing, expressing lingering resentment toward Herring. “He’s ruined my life in so many ways. He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again,” she added, though she hopes to regain that trust in the future.
On the night of the incident, Herring’s mother, Kerrie-Anne Grogan, called emergency services in distress. She told the BBC: “I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son. I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her.”
Herring, of Lark Meadow Drive, admitted the relationship was “toxic” during the trial. The argument that led to the fall centered on accusations of infidelity. Police praised Goodman for her courage in sharing her ordeal and noted ongoing support for her recovery.
Officers highlighted the bravery of the victim in recounting her abuse, while emphasizing the continued care provided to her throughout the process. The case underscores the severe consequences of domestic violence and control within relationships.
