One dead after bus carrying British tourists crashes in Canary Islands, officials say
One Dead, 27 Injured in Bus Accident on La Gomera
Local authorities confirmed that a bus crash on La Gomera, part of the Canary Islands, resulted in one fatality and 27 injuries. The incident occurred on the GM-2 road, where the vehicle plunged into a ravine from approximately 10 meters in height, as reported by Spanish news outlet El Mundo.
Emergency services deployed a medical helicopter and five ambulances to rescue the passengers. The injured were transported to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, located on the island’s eastern side, with two seriously affected individuals airlifted to hospitals in Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands.
“The passengers were staying at a resort on the island,” said Héctor Cabrera, head of emergency operations in La Gomera. The group had been traveling to the San Sebastián de La Gomera dock, where they planned to board a ferry to Tenerife.
The accident took place on a winding, mountainous route known for its sharp turns. An image shared by emergency personnel shows the bus overturning near a hairpin bend. The Canary Islands’ tourism body noted that around 3.83 million British visitors arrived in 2025, with approximately 70,000 heading to La Gomera, a favored spot for hikers due to its volcanic terrain.
President Fernando Clavijo of the Canary Islands extended his condolences to the victims and their families. La Gomera, the second smallest island in the archipelago, is just 50 minutes by ferry from Tenerife, making it a popular yet accessible destination for travelers.
