Mandelson Faces £300 Fine for Public Urination

Lord Peter Mandelson, the former UK ambassador to the United States, is set to receive a fine of up to £300 for urinating in a public street in London. However, the Kensington and Chelsea council has faced challenges in locating a suitable address to deliver the fixed penalty notice. According to the council, they are “looking to issue” the fine following the incident in November, but have yet to find the correct location.

The council noted that street enforcement officers were not present at the scene during the alleged offense, preventing an immediate fine. Despite this, they stated that the event has been documented through images and public statements, making it possible to pursue the penalty. Without an official address, the fine remains pending.

“The fixed penalty notice includes a fine of up to £300, which can be lowered to £150 if settled within two weeks,” the council explained.

The incident occurred after a late-night visit to the home of former Conservative chancellor George Osborne in west London. The Daily Mail captured photos of Lord Mandelson relieving himself against a wall in the upscale Notting Hill area following his departure from Osborne’s residence.

Lord Mandelson was recently dismissed as UK ambassador to the US in September due to his connections with Jeffrey Epstein, a disgraced financier under criminal scrutiny. He is currently being investigated for allegedly sharing confidential government data with Epstein. The BBC has sought his response to the matter.

A prominent figure in British politics for decades, Mandelson played a vital role in the New Labour movement, which contributed to Tony Blair’s significant electoral success in 1997. He was appointed to the ambassador role in December 2024 by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. In late February, he was arrested at his London home as part of an inquiry into potential leaks of Downing Street communications and sensitive market information.
