Coachella kicks off with Sabrina Carpenter and surprise guests
Coachella Music Festival Begins with Sabrina Carpenter and Unexpected Performers
The iconic Coachella music festival commenced on Friday with an unexpected twist, as actor Susan Sarandon joined pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter during her headlining set. Sarandon delivered a monologue portraying a more mature version of the 26-year-old artist, seamlessly integrating into the performance. Comedian Will Ferrell and actor Sam Elliott also made appearances, adding a touch of Hollywood flair to the event.
Weather Disruptions Impact Festival Schedule
Weather conditions posed challenges as forecasts warned of strong winds and dust in the Coachella Valley. These elements led to the cancellation of DJ Anyma’s set after Carpenter’s performance. “Due to strong wind conditions affecting Anyma’s stage build, he is unable to perform tonight,” stated the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in an Instagram post. “Coachella and Anyma have made this decision together with your safety as the priority.”
Particle pollution can get deep into the lungs and cause serious health problems such as asthma attacks, heart and lung disease symptoms, and increased risk of lung infections
Additionally, an air quality advisory was issued from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning, affecting sensitive groups. While windblown dust was a concern, the local air quality management district noted particle levels as good to moderate since noon on Thursday. The festival, hosted at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, has operated since 2002 and attracts over 100,000 attendees each day across two weekends.
Lineup Highlights and Future Events
Sabrina Carpenter’s opening act transformed the stage into a Hollywood-inspired setting, dubbing it “Sabrinawood.” Her performance began with a short film scene where she was pulled over by Sam Elliott, later emerging onto the main stage. Will Ferrell joined later, impersonating an electrician. Other Friday acts included KATSEYE and Disclosure, while Saturday and Sunday will feature Justin Bieber and Karol G, respectively.
A variety of UK artists are also scheduled, including Wet Leg, Lambrini Girls, Little Simz, and FKA Twigs. The festival’s lineup will be repeated during the second weekend, maintaining its status as a global cultural phenomenon.
