School Closure Due to Nearby Incident
St John’s Church School in Peterborough announced its closure after a “serious incident” occurred nearby. An email shared with the BBC explained that police were conducting operations close to the school, prompting the decision to shut down temporarily.
Arrests and Suspects
Among those taken into custody are a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both from Peterborough, who are suspected of murder. A large cordoned-off area persists around the site on Monday, with heightened patrols planned for the next few days. Some residents have placed floral tributes beside the barrier, showing solidarity with the victim.
Det Ch Insp Richard Stott of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit remarked, “This incident has led to the unfortunate death of a young man. We are in regular communication with his family and providing them with updates. While the loss is deeply troubling for the community, we do not consider this a random act. A strong police presence is anticipated in the area for the coming days.”
Shopping Centre Status
Although the Ortongate Shopping Centre continues to operate normally, its rear parking area is temporarily closed. The school has stated it will “keep a close watch on developments” and inform families regarding the possibility of reopening.
