Inside Jeffrey Epstein’s inner circle — the aides, lawyers and confidants who ran his world

Jeffrey Epstein’s Inner Circle: The Unsung Architects of His World

Jeffrey Epstein built his empire on connections to influential figures. Emails and documents shared by the Justice Department in January exposed his ties to icons like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump. Yet, his most trusted allies remained shrouded in secrecy, operating as silent enablers in his complex financial ventures.

The Core of Epstein’s Operations

Epstein’s inner circle included a lawyer, accountant, assistant, pilot, modeling scout, and ex-partner, all working in tandem to manage his affairs. Their roles spanned global properties, business dealings, and financial transactions, ensuring his lifestyle thrived even amid legal challenges. Despite their proximity to his activities, many have maintained silence, though they deny any involvement in wrongdoing.

Revealing the Hidden Mechanics

Newly disclosed files from the Justice Department provide a glimpse into the daily functions of Epstein’s inner circle. They handled everything from cash withdrawals and shell company formations to covering expenses for young women he favored and arranging travel for his guests. In one instance, a member installed hidden cameras at a property, as noted in the records. Others managed his personal care, including scheduling massages, where abuse was alleged to occur.

Testimonies and Legal Scrutiny

As the coming months unfold, several figures from Epstein’s inner circle will face federal inquiry. Richard Kahn, his accountant, and Darren Indyke, his attorney, are set to appear before the House Oversight Committee on March 11 and 19. Lesley Groff, his executive assistant, is also scheduled to testify on June 9. While the US government’s diagram highlights key members, only Ghislaine Maxwell, his ex-girlfriend, was charged as a co-conspirator in federal sex trafficking cases.

Legacy and Financial Implications

Some members of Epstein’s inner circle were honored in his will, with millions earmarked for their support. However, the will has not yet been activated. Meanwhile, a victims’ compensation fund, managed by Kahn and Indyke, distributed $125 million before closing in 2021. A recent settlement, pending judicial approval, could provide up to $35 million to survivors without admitting fault.

The Role of Lesley Groff

Lesley Groff joined Epstein’s team in 2001, as documented in a 2010 payroll record. She oversaw his calendar, arranged travel, and acted as a liaison with prominent individuals. Epstein described her as indispensable, even going so far as to gift her a Mercedes-Benz E320 when she became pregnant in 2004, ensuring she could continue her duties with ease. “There is no way that I could lose Lesley to motherhood,” he told the New York Times in 2005. An attorney for Groff has not yet commented on the ongoing investigations.

“There is no way that I could lose Lesley to motherhood,” said Epstein in a 2005 interview with the New York Times.
