Brits in Dubai reveal ‘nerve-wracking’ emergency alerts ‘to seek immediate shelter’

Dubai residents, including British expats, are grappling with urgent alerts on their mobile devices about possible missile threats. These notifications have triggered a wave of precautionary measures across the city, with people scrambling to find safe places.

At least two emergency alerts were dispatched, urging individuals to take shelter immediately and await additional guidance. The situation has intensified as Iran escalates its missile campaign, targeting various locations in the Middle East.

Dubai has seen a series of drone interceptions, with debris from two iconic landmarks—Burj Al Arab and Palm Jumeirah—landing and igniting fires. The incidents have caused widespread concern, particularly among expatriates.

Expat experiences

“We’ve received two alerts just now, and another two last night,” said Martyn, a British expat. “It’s a very tense situation. There’s no way to understand it, even though we’re right in the middle of it.”

Martyn described the experience as “extremely unsettling,” noting that the alerts are designed to instill fear. “My heart races every time I get one,” he added. “Iran is targeting US bases and organizations in the region after the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in ‘Operation Epic Fury’.”

“Honestly, it scares me a lot. But it’s meant to. You can’t just shut it off or stop it, so it’s really effective,” Martyn explained. “The level of disruption across the UAE is exactly what Iran aims for.”

He also mentioned that friends in Abu Dhabi faced severe impacts, with 15 intercepts recorded recently. “It feels like they’re taking potshots at us, creating chaos wherever they can,” he said.
